What to Expect During Your Hospital Stay

If your care requires an inpatient stay at Forks Community Hospital, we want to make sure you feel informed, comfortable, and supported throughout your stay. Here’s what to know before you arrive and what to expect while you are here.

What to Bring with You

At Forks Community Hospital, we are committed to ensuring your comfort and safety. Talk to your health care provider about the specific details related to the reason for being admitted to our inpatient unit, and when possible, it’s important that you and your family plan to ensure you have the essential items you need while you are here. The following are the personal items we recommend you prepare and bring with you.

  • A mobile phone and/or tablet (with chargers, if needed)
  • A government-issued photo ID
  • Your health insurance card
  • Comfortable sleepwear
  • Toiletries and personal items, such as a toothbrush, dentures, glasses or contact lenses (with containers)
  • A written list of your current medications (please leave the medications themselves at home)
  • Prior to your stay, we encourage all patients to sign into MyChart, which is the electronic health record system where a list of your medications and other important information, such as allergies, can be found.

We strongly recommend leaving valuables, including jewelry and large amounts of cash, at home or with a trusted family member.

Medications

Please do not bring your medications with you to the hospital unless specifically instructed by your care team. Our medical staff will manage and provide all medications needed during your stay. If your provider approves the use of a medication from home, it must be reviewed and administered by hospital staff.

Meals During Your Stay

Our Dietary Services team is ready to serve you delicious and nutritious meals during your stay and will follow the dietary plan or restrictions provided by your care team.

Preparing for Discharge

When your doctor determines you are ready to go home, here’s what will happen:

  • You’ll receive written discharge instructions and authorization
  • Your care team will review your instructions with you before you leave

You’ll receive a copy of your follow-up care plan, which may include:

  • Post-discharge appointments
  • Instructions for medications
  • Wound or incision care
  • Activity and recovery guidelines

If you have questions at any point in your stay, please don’t hesitate to ask. Our team is here to help you feel safe, supported, and confident in your care.

Should it be determined that you need a different level of care not provided at Forks Community Hospital, a member of our discharge planning team will work with you and those you designate to help make necessary arrangements.
